For those who want to design a system like Siri

This book has features found in "general introduction",
positive part of which is that it contains a text-book structure
where you can learn elements suggested in mainstream solutions
to building an autonomous agent or intelligent system, and
negative one; a light-weight version of Artificial Intelligence : A Modern Approach.
I do not regret buying this book because the last two sections of the book
includes some architectural guidelines essential to developing an intelligent agent system.
If you aim at learning deeper level of pattern recognition or machine learning,
you'd better consider other books like "Pattern Recognition" by Sergios Theodoridis
or "Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning" by Bishop.
If you want to learn some rule-based inference engine, you also need to read books on
JBoss Rules or Jess in Action.
If your intention includes designing a dialogue agent or a Q&A system,
you'd better consider purchasing one.
