Horses of the Light Review-Excellent...10 stars!

I really must give this book 10+ Stars! I totally loved this book and must say, it's the best book I've read in a while. My cat Smudge is laying here on my desk licking my fingers and he's the best, so he's telling me that this must have been a great book, as it took time away from playing with him.
Really, I'm an older person, and I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very interesting, very well written and very exciting! The book kept me amused and reading almost non-stop. (I had to eat.) I also fell asleep a couple times reading very late night. But not because I was bored.
Thank You for the series,"The Outback Riders", which you've written and are writing right now. I'm presently reading "Horses of the Sun" and awaiting your next book, "Horses of Fire". I can't wait for the book to be out on the market.
I did check out your web site. I was also a Quarter Horse Breeder/Trainer, etc. Many years ago, before I became disabled and NOT from riding horses. I was born with a birth defect and worked around the pain every day. I've found that going to surgeon's is more dangerous than any horse I'd ever worked with. That was when I became disabled. But I do love reading stories and still am around horses as much as I'd like to be, I just can't ride any more. Go figure. My Neurosurgeon is a horse person too, so I'll take his word for it. But what a way to go, eh? Doing what you love the most. Riding. Thank you for your well written books. I've enjoyed them so far and will certainly look for any other which you've written. I just downloaded, " Flame the Fire Horse" and will read that one very soon.
Good luck with your writing and keep up the great work with your horses! They are all very beautiful! One of my favorites was a palamino AQHA stud colt from my Pinto AQHA mare. Bar Line and oh, so beautiful! Brings back many good memories! Thank You so very much!

Delightful

I loved " Horses of the Sun" and was just delighted when " Horses of the Light" became available. Being a life long horse lover and owner myself it was easy to identify with these youngsters. I could not put this book down. I look forward to reading "Horses of the Fire".

I Googled often to more fully appreciate the rich land of Australia and the Outback.

Waking up is hard to do ... or is it?

My reaction to this book is similar to most of those who have given it 5 stars so I won't repeat what they have all said. It's certainly a refreshing point of view that de Mello offers here and anybody who has found themselves questioning their religion, depressed and despondent about the state of their life or just not content within their current spiritual life practices can potentially gain from reading AWARENESS. It is so unlike the many self-help books that attempt to convince people they must change themselves or others to be more whatever it is is they think is right or good or happy or enlightened (i.e. "don't sweat the small stuff", etc.). This book makes it clear that the author holds no such illusions. You won't change anybody by reading this book. You won't even change yourself. You might, however, just start curiously observing or reflecting on yourself and your actions or feelings in a different way, a way more authentic to the person you really and truly are and what that person you call "I" wants or needs from life. And that little tweak in the way you perceive and experience your life can ripple widely and resonate deeply in you. You might just find that you no longer have such strong desires to change yourself or others and instead find in its place a developing sense of humorous detachment and delight as you begin to see through the folly that was ensnaring you and continues to ensnare others and simply enjoy a life free of your earlier immature mental and spiritual constraints. That is how I assess the effect of this book on my own life as it has become part of it through reading and re-reading this book from time to time.

The last book on this subject I'll ever read.

If you had told me, an depressive athiest with a history of alcoholism and self-loathing, five years ago that I'd find the greatest book on the most revolutionary wisdom in the Christian section of the bookstore, I would have told you a) get away from me, and b) gimme whatever you're smoking.

Since that time I've come into a bit of a "spiritual path", and read countless books on awareness/mindfulness/presence, or whatever you'd like to call this path.

Many are wonderful. This was the finest of all, though. This is not a Christian book at all. It is simply another expression of the "one true wisdom" which cuts across all spiritual teachings, religious or otherwise.

It is what the Buddha was talking about. It is what Jesus was talking about. It is what Lao Tzu was talking about. It is what Eckhart Tolle, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Tara Brach, Thich Nhat Hahn, Byron Katie are talking about today.

There's really only one teaching over the past six thousand years or so. You pick your favorite teacher. De Mello is, after reading this book, mine. Perfectly hilarious and light, but forceful and to the point, without getting bogged down in words. Like someone who so confidently knows the subject matter, so confidently lives it, that there is no need for pretense.

If you don't like it because it goes against your doctrine, your dogma, your beliefs, that's fine. When you have suffered enough, you will be ready to wake up from your dream.

The strangest thing I've ever read

This is the strangest thing I ever read. I always thought the world was problematic. It never occurred to me that I am the problem, not the world. Dale Carnegie once said "success is getting what you want, happiness is wanting what you get". I never understood that until I read this book. You are in for the shock of your life, assuming that you are ready to understand it. As he says, your ability to understand this is relational to how much truth you can take before you run away. People will always tell you "I just want the truth", but don't believe them, even for a second. What they REALLY want is to be right, first and foremost. The right God, the right philosophy, the right facts..... Then, if there's some room left over for the truth, so be it. THAT'S how people operate. They never consider that life is not the problem, THEY are the problem. He will prove this to you, and although that sounds painful, it's actually joyful and liberating. No need to judge the world anymore. He will shatter the belief system that makes you unhappy, and whether you know it or not, you are unhappy. One can be the happiest person in the entire depression ward of a hospital and can truely believe that they are happy based on relative comparison, but they are not happy. They don't know what true, unconditional happiness is. He will show you TRUE happiness, TRUE love, TRUE peace. Are you ready for that? I'll bet you're not.

Being an NLP Practitioner I prefer having all possible techniques at my disposal. I have used a few of the techniques available in this book and they do work.

I you are an aspiring NLP Coach or have a keen interested in the field of NLP I want to suggest that you read this book.

Kindle Edition No table of contents - Beware

This review is not on the contents of the book, but the fact that the publisher chose not to include a ToC. The book is obviously meant as a reference and it seems unlikely anyone would want to search page by page for the topics included (my iPad says 14,239 pages on small font). I suggest the publisher fix this issue and that potential readers skip this until then. I will be more than happy to update the review when this gets fixed, as I really wanted to be reading the book instead of writing a negative review.

A complicated condition!

Wow. I was so surprised when I got into this book. I really expected to find out how to rest better and which vitamins to take, but I got something completely different. This book gives details of the many conditions that can cause fatigue and what you can do in each situation to remedy fatigue.

The information about actions to take was invaluable. I found that there are more than one thing that is causing my fatigue. By changing a few things I'm already feeling more rested and energized.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who doesn't know exactly what to do about the fatigue they live with.

A Genuinely Useful Book on Dealing with Tiredness

Fatigue has become more and more of a problem for me over the last couple of years, so I'm always interested in anything that can both explain the causes (without overcomplicating things) and give a few solutions.This easy-to-read book does exactly that.

This book strikes a nice balance between finding out why you might be tired and what to do about it. After all, finding the problem is only half the story.

The first part was a good general overview of the main causes of fatigue, from anaemia to Fibromyalgia. Fortunately (at least for me!) the explanations are aimed at the layman and don't try to blind you with science or scientific jargon.

After this, the author goes through most of the big problems associated with fatigue. This was quite an eye-opener. Although I knew that I was having a few problems feeling tired, I didn't realise quite how many issues I had until I read through them here!

But to be honest, the real key for me was the advice on dealing with these things. Fortunately, there was a lot of good stuff that I found easy to apply immediately, whether it was in terms of diet or dealing with work-related stress. Some of this has already borne fruit and I'm fairly confident that it will be straightforward to make some long-term changes using this book too.

Overall then, another really useful book from James Driver. It is easy to read in one sitting, but gives a good range of concrete advice to really make a difference. Five stars from me.

Common sense ideas to help you Not feel tired

Nicely laid out and easy to read. I hate books that go on for 100 pages to get to the point, but not this one. Some books I like to read front to back, others I skip around. This one was a skip-around book. I know what I don't have so read the sections on feeling tired that I might have. He has those nicely laid out with a breif summary at the end of each chapter (helpful). Many common reasons for fatigue can be found along with his recommendations to help you with each.

If you're tired, fatigued, either occassionaly or chronically I do recommend this book first before spending a lot on doctors and/or medications. It may even give you some intelligent questions to ask your doctor when you do go.

a must-have for any Mario fan

Mario Mania is a strategy guide for Super Mario World that was given to Nintendo Power subscribers. I remember seeing the ad for Nintendo Power many years ago and telling my mother that I wanted to get the magazine. Mom thought it was silly to subscribe to Nintendo Power just for a free gift, so she obviously said no. I eventually forgot this book even existed.

Fast forward 15 years later. I was looking around eBay for collectible game guides when I saw someone had this book for sale. The price was relatively low compared to what other sellers were asking for, so I bought the book. Despite being over 20 years old, Mario Mania still contains a trove of relevant information. It covers game mechanics in great detail and numerous tricks that were only rediscovered through years of gameplay. This is certainly a book that I would recommend to anyone that enjoys playing Super Mario World.

The only downside is that the book is pretty expensive these days - be prepared to pay at least $10.00 plus shipping for it - but that won't figure into the rating as Mario Mania is essentially a rare item these days.

Drawing on extensive scholarship, Greenbaum highlights the flaws in Moynihan’s analysis. She reveals how his questionable ideas have been used to redirect blame for substandard schools, low wages, and the scarcity of jobs away from the societal forces that cause these problems, while simultaneously reinforcing stereotypes about African Americans. Greenbaum also critiques current policy issues that are directly affected by the tangle of pathology mindset—the demonization and destruction of public housing; the criminalization of black youth; and the continued humiliation of the poor by entrepreneurs who become rich consulting to teachers, non-profits, and social service personnel. A half century later, Moynihan’s thesis remains for many a convenient justification for punitive measures and stingy indifference to the poor. Greenbaum’s writing style is easy to follow

I couldn’t put this book down because it kept breaking up my misconceptions about the problems and reasons for the difficulties African Americans still face today 50 years after Moynihan’s report. Dr. Greenbaum’s writing style is easy to follow, logical, and well reasoned. It should be required reading for anyone truly interested in solving the horrendous, man-made problem of racism but also identifies how hard it will be to do so. Read it anyway, get mad, and encourage programs that Dr. Greenbaum see promise in and stop doing things that don’t work, including blaming the poor.

A scholarly edition of a Kyrgyz text that provides one of the few English translations of Manas poetry

In the mid-19th century the Kazakh nobleman Chokan Valikhanov commissioned a manuscript of Kyrgyz epic poetry, namely the story of Kokotoy's memorial feast. Though the manuscript was lost to scholarship for a century, in 1977 the English scholar of epic A. T. Hatto was eventually able to prepare this critical edition of the text in Latin transliteration along with English translation.

Kokotoy's Memorial Feast was initially a standalone story, but it slowly became attached to the great cycle of poems about Manas, the Kyrgyz hero. By the time this version was recited around 1856, Manas was already a major factor in the plot, saving the feast from the ravages of Kalmak and Solgon enemies, though he doesn't get much dialogue. Another interesting aspect of the poem is its ambiguous variety of Islam, where the Kyrgyz proudly set themselves apart from "infidels", yet do a great deal of drinking with evocations of their Turkic pagan past. All the features of oral storytelling are here, including the delightful repetitions where the bard plugs in stock phrases. Wrestling bouts, for instance, are always described with the metaphors that the fighters grappled for days on end, knocked down forests, and made hills into valleys.

Because Hatto started his career with German and Greek epic, one of his major concerns here is to show similarities between European stories and Kyrgyz. For example, Hatto notes that the tradition of holding a memorial feast with horse races that the Kyrgyz poem recounts is found in the Odyssey as well. He also speaks much about the difficulties of deciphering the Arabic manuscript. Still, as a linguist who does some work with the Turkic languages, I do wish that Hatto had spoken more about the dialectal features of the Kyrgyz text. The bard seems to have used a language which has features of both Kazakh and Kyrgyz, but Hatto doesn't go into detail.

Hatto's translation into English is loose, and to really get the most from this book you would have to be able to follow the Kyrgyz text to some extent. Plus, it is somewhat unpolished and relies far too much on exclamation marks for effect. Still, if you are just curious about the Manas stories and want to read them in English, Hatto's work is certainly the most scholarly and reliable. There is a lengthy commentary following the text, which gives background on the many cultural references of the poem.

A classic book, well worth the price.

This book IS the authoritative reference on all things electronic (IC's, PWB, assembly, reliability, etc.). This book was published in ~1989, so it may be dated for some readers, but an update has not been released since. I recommend this book for any electronic manufacturing designer / engineer interested in the science of electronic design, manufacture, and analysis.

great reference for anyone involved in the design and manufacture of electronics

This handbook is a compendium of useful information on just about every topic in the manufacturing of electronics for anyone involved in electronic packaging.
Extensive details in all aspects of electronic packaging is discussed in great detail from semiconductor fabrication, semiconductor assembly, pwb, hybrid, MCM, and flip chip. This handbook is an excellent starting point for someone new to the industry or veterans looking for references on specific topics.
The handbook not only includes electronic materials data but electronic design information.

I recommend it to my attendees for an IMAPS webinar I just presented in December 2013.
While much of the material is circa 1990, it still is applicable to the basics of today’s electronic packaging.
I wish the ASM would follow up with a new and updated version and generate a Volume II.
