Very good presentation on the language but kinda superficial.

This is a very good book. The quality of the material is excellent and the audio recordings as well. However, although it covers content from B1 and B2 it is VERY SUPERFICIAL.

A exemple: It only talk about Nebensätze (subordinate clauses) on the last 2 chapters while this is an topic for A2 level. Not to mention that it is limited to the use of "dass...". No "deshalb", "trotzden", "damit", "dafür", etc...

So, if you are a newcomer and has no purposes such as proficiency exams etc... This book will be great for you. You will be able to read and understand a lot of things. But, if you ALREADY studied German, and need to be prepared for the B1, I strongly recommend this one:

Love the course but they need to update description

I know a lot of people complained about all the pics and glossy pages in this course but hey, I am a frills kinda gal and it actually made the course more appealing to me. They really need to update the description as there is only one CD with the course. They put all the content on one CD and instead of writing a new description, they just copied and pasted it from the old course page. So don't fret, same course, 2 CD content on ONE CD; you are not being cheated, Amazon web manager just got lazy. But then again, he may not have realized it. Either way, I think the course is worth getting....as well as the other books to: Essential German Grammar, the vocabulary book, how to improve your German, etc. Just get it all! LOL!

My opinion after a week using Teach Yourself for the first time

I wish I could compare this book to the pre-2010 editions, but this is my first time using Teach Yourself.

From what I've seen on other polyglots' videos, the German Teach Yourself books have gone through some major facelift in 2010, and the 2013 edition has inherited the paper quality, colors and pictures. Personally, those are no more than frills - all these pictures take up space and add nothing to the content. However, by comparing to a video review I saw from the 2010 edition, I could see that they removed the full-page pictures, which is a "step back in the right direction", and either added content to those pages (tips about the culture) or, less likely, just reorganized the content. I'm looking forward for other opinions on this, as I don't have another edition at hand.

Now, Amazon advertises it as if it came with two Audio CDs, but it comes in fact with a single MP3 CD. Not a problem at all in my opinion, but it should be advertised accordingly - the box comes with the correct information.

Regarding the method itself, I like it so far. It doesn't try to take you by the hand and explain everything, and you often come across phrases that aren't explained in the book, but that you can infer meaning.

So far, I can easily recommend this. I just wish they got rid of all the useless pictures.

Good, but needs to be updated

I use this book in a college class I teach and have found it to be helpful as a vehicle for discussion. My only complaint is that it needs to be revised. This edition was published 5 years ago. Some of the ethics codes for mental health providers that are included in the back of the book have changed. The American Psychological Association, for example, issued a new ethics code in 2003. Now would be a good time for the author to revise and update the book. Additional ethical scenarios could be included, information on the new government-mandated privacy laws, etc. Otherwise, the book may lose its usefulness as the laws and mental health field change.

A good book but out of date

I have used this book in many of my Ethics classes. I wish I could continue to use it, but as the previous reviewer has pointed out, it is now out of date. I would love to see the author publish a new edition. If she does not have time to do so, I would be glad to help her revise this valuable work book for Human Services undergrads!!

As the first part of the book presents the development of written tradition, part two introduces the reader to a range of variants of Kurmanji from Turkey, Armenia, Russia, Syria, Iraqi Kurdistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenia, and Khorasan, each conveying the richness of their forms. This part of the Reader is of interest for Kurdish Oral History Studies too for it consists of various recordings of historical information, based on the personal experience of the speakers. The Reader contains two Kurdish-English glossaries and a grammar section. This constitutes a comprehensive outline of the subjects under study along with a fundamental description of the cornerstones of Kurmanji grammatical categories, and explanations of the main discrepancies between the local Kurmanji variants and the literary language with examples taken from the selections. Additionally, the book offers English translations of selected texts with an English-Kurdish dictionary of linguistic terms.

Or is it the fullness of a good life? CAN one have both

Louise Lambert was handed a life sentence of poverty on a not- so- silver platter as soon as she was born. Fast forward 14 years when her mother is killed and you can add fear and a struggle to survive to the mix. However there are a few, a very few people who do care, and attempt to help as much as they are capable and she consequently lands a job in the home of wealthy Henry Flagler. And in my opinion that's where the story truly takes off!
Lambert has the rare talent of making history come alive with her words, the grit and the glimpses of brightness of it all. This is a book that gets devoured...not read.
You will also be drawn into wondering just what it is that makes one 'rich'. Is it monetary wealth? Or is it the fullness of a good life? CAN one have both...is that possible?
I have to admit that she also accomplished to create a rare occurance. As pages were drawing to a close i caught myself pleading out loud to a book.... " nonononono...this can't be the end!" Yep, i talked to a book.
It's first in a trilogy, and you will be left wanting more.

Medea's revenge is a lifetime of suffering

Medea by Euripedes was a play I chose for my 2015 reading challenge. The play, with only 47 pages took about 1/2 hour to read. My first thought was.....doesn't the woman on the cover look like Salma Hayek?

The play centers around Medea, a goddess who falls madly in love, emphasis on MADLY, with Jason. She gives up everything for this man. We're talking killing, stealing, betraying her father and home, the whole kitten caboodle. She has 2 sons by him then one day, bang........homeboy hooks up with this younger chick, leaves Medea and the kids and marries this home-wrecker. Say what???? Say it isn't so........ oh, it's so!

To put icing on the cake, this home-wrecker's daddy (Creon) banishes her from the land. Allowed to stay one more day she plots her revenge and baby she went for it. Unfortunately her revenge is an act that would cost a lifetime of suffering not only her husband but herself as well.

Medea, although a quick read, is very powerful. You will agree with Medea and understand her pain but will hate her for her decisions. Jason is a loser who tries to convince Medea that what he was doing was for a good reason. Let me tell you something, no one (woman) in there right mind would believe it. What's interesting is the mentality of both individuals. Medea was not afraid to show her emotions, whether sadness, fear or anger but Jason remained calmed and had no hatred towards her. She screamed at him, called him names, yet he thought they could still remain friends until the end.

With no idea what this play was about or how it would turn out. I'm glad I chose it.

Refreshing read

Even though this is probably the oldest book on dreams i've read, it is one of the more enjoyable and insightful. I think that the fact that this was written before there were alot of other books on the subject floating around, is part of why it is so good. This is a completley original and personal account of the authors experiences, observations, and theories. It doesn't have the impersonal scientific feel that many of these books do. I also really appreciate that the author is not afraid to disagree with most of the dream researchers of her time, and explain why she thinks so.If you want some fresh insight, tips on gaining lucidity, or a different style of lucid dream book to read, this is for you.I also recomend "Lucid dreaming" by Steven LaBerge and "Control Your Dreams" by Jayne Gackenbach and Jane Bosveld.

"Studies In Dreams" by Mary Arnold-Forster is an excellent first-person account of an active and vivid dream life. I first became exposed to it while reading Dr. Patricia Garfield's "Creative Dreaming", a book that was very useful to me at a time when I was experimenting with dreams and keeping a dream journal. I wanted to go back to the source material that Dr. Garfield referenced, and was very excited when I found "Studies In Dreams" available on Amazon. My copy is a hardcover, copyright 1921, with a stamp on the inside cover identifying it as property of the American Merchant Marine Library Association in New York City from before we used five digit zip codes, so it's physically quite a treasure for me, besides being an excellent read.

A fun holiday read

Holiday Kisses was another great, fun Christmas read. I just loved reading about the Sweetbriar Cove Christmas fun!

Ellie is stuck running her families hotel for the holiday season, one of the busiest times of year in Sweetbriar Cove. She dreams of traveling the world and experiencing something different. She just wants to get out and do something new as she has never gone anywhere. She has a rule - no getting involved with tourists. It will only end in heartache for her. She learned her lesson the first time. Only when Dash shows up things heat up. No matter how much she tells herself she can't, she would just be a holiday fling for him, she is still drawn to him.

Dash is a Hollywood screenwriter/director but he is having a hard time finding the inspiration to write his current piece. He needs to get this script written as it is way past due. He plans to stay in a secluded cabin in the woods far away from Hollywood in the hopes that the solitude and lack of distractions will help. He doesn't count on meeting Ellie, this girl who inspires him and makes him want to get closer and never let her go.

This is a quick read, but full of all the holiday fun I love. Lots of snow and Christmas cheer, a bit of Christmas magic and viola! You have a fun Christmas read. Ellie and Dash were cute together, I loved reading what Dash was thinking especially. He looks at people in a unique way that made it fun to watch everything unfold. Ellie is a bit scared to trust someone again, especially someone who is not staying around, as she just doesn't want to get hurt. It was a sweet story and I really enjoyed it. Another great holiday read.

5 stars for Holiday Kisses...an awesome book by Melody Grace

Holiday Kisses by Melody Grace is a fun holiday read. Located in New England, Sweetbriar Cove has a lovely little inn, the Sweetbriar Inn and it is being run by Ellie Lucas. She has a last minute guest, the hot British film director, Dash Everett.

Dash is looking for inspiration and he thinks he might find it Sweetbriar Cove...he's hoping that isolation, a deserted cabin, and some Jack Daniels will get rid of his writer's block. While Dash is looking to stay, Ellie wants to leave. She is stuck running the inn during the holidays and all she wants to do is leave Sweetbriar Cove and do something she's never done before. She's not impressed with the arrogant dude in cabin 4 even if he is sexy. Besides, she has a rule and its not to get involved with the guests.

Melody Grace did such a wonderful job with Dash's character. He seemed so jaded at first, but seeing the small town charm at Christmas made him see things in a different light. I think Christmas spirit can make anyone change their mind about being anti-holiday. I also loved Ellie's character. I can certainly understand her reasons for not getting involved with someone who isn't going to stay around. I enjoyed watching her change her mind about Dash.

Of course, something happens that throws them together into an unlikely situation. One-click and find out if Dash got rid of his writer's block and if Ellie finds what she has been looking for. This is another fantastic book by Melody Grace. As usual, her writing is amazing. I give Holiday Kisses 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to read a holiday themed book.

I loved Melody Grace and her flawless writing style

When I first heard about this book, I was so excited. I loved Melody Grace and her flawless writing style. So, when this lovely little novella showed up on my kindle, I could not wait to dive in.

Holiday Kisses follows the story of Dash and Ellie. Dash blows into town looking for some inspiration that will hopefully help with his writers block. However, once he gets into town and lays eyes on Ellie, he quickly discovers that maybe isolation isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Ellie loves living in the Cape. While she has dreams of leaving and traveling around the world, she likes being her hometown and feeling needed. When she meets Dash and sees his anti-holiday attitude, she’s less than excited about having him around. But, when fate throws them into an unlikely situation, both Ellie and Dash will start seeing things in a different light. Will Dash finally break his writers block? Will Ellie finally get that extra happiness that she’s been looking for?

Holiday Kisses was such a fun read. It gave me everything that I’ve come to love and expect in a Melody Grace novel. The story was well written and entertaining. The characters pulled you into their story and had you wanting to learn more. I loved the romance and swoony moments. I appreciated that while there was some drama, it was on the light side. Melody Grace has once again delivered a fun holiday romance, that will leave you begging for more!!

Good Basic Textbook

I am a professor of computer science and used this book for my Algorithms class. Although it had a few errors, there were many things I liked about it. First, the size of the book is just right; it covers all of the major subjects and I was able to use the entire text in one semester. Other textbooks cover topics in so much detail, I often had to leave many topics out of the course. Second, the active learning approach is great; having students do in class exercises and group projects helped them grasp the material more quickly. Third, I liked the omission of higher level mathematics; our college offers a degree in computer science but also other computer-related degrees which do not require a knowledge of calculus. Any student should be able to grasp the math in this book. In conclusion, I will use this text again and look forward to other authors writing books that "get to the point" quickly like this author did.

This book is extremely good at explaining things to make the algorithms and just the basics of algorithms clear. I've taken about 3 programming courses that emphasized algorithms, and they all used different books. This one was the only one that made it easy to understand. It's also one of the few books I'm also going to keep and not sell off for side change, because I found it extremely valuable. Maybe it was because it was my last class of the three that used algorithms, and I've somewhat learned the other ones before, but this book actually made me understand the algorithms and the different benefits, etc to one algorithm over another and to understand the differences in time and memory usage that just didn't click with me before until this one. Ex: I could never tell you what a greedy algorithm was, or how to implement a divide and conquer algorithm in code.
Also, when it came time for interviews and tests, I was never able to study out of the other algorithm books, they just made no sense to me. This one, I could go over the chapters easily, and still understand it. Looking back, I wish I had had this book when I interviewed for a summer intern opportunity here at Amazon xD. It would've definitely helped me. Unfortunately, I didn't get this book until after, but at least I've got the knowledge of it now. I'd HIGHLY recommend this book. (Note: Part of the ease of learning the content may also have to do with the quality of instructor, so take that into consideration as well, but in other words, I still recommend)
