The best book on driving a race car you can buy, and I have all of them

Well, maybe not all of them, but I have most of the biggest ones: the Skip Barber School's "Going Faster", Ross Bentley's "Speed Secrets", and Carroll Smith's "Drive to Win". The crown jewel in my collection is Ayrton Senna's "Principles of Race Driving", which is a pricey but intriguing look into the mind of the great driver.

This book, however, tops them all. Krumm covers every aspect of performance driving, from weight transfer to setup, and does it in a way that's clear and easy to understand. Even better, he backs up his instruction with specific examples, citing moments in Formula 1 races that illustrate his teaching points. This allows the reader to see in video what he's talking about in the book.

He also covers techniques I hadn't heard of before. One example is how to induce understeer to help deal with a car with severe oversteer. After explaining the technique, he cites a race where Fernando Alonso used that very technique to keep his car under control in a particular corner.

This book has gone to the top of my racecar instruction library, and it's hard to think anything else will top it. I wish it was available on Kindle so I could have it as a pocket reference; that's how good it is. If you're trying to learn how to drive a race car better, this book is a must-buy.

The best new book on race car driving and setup

I have read many books on driving techniques, and put much of the info from those to good use on the track. And out comes a new, up to date book on driving. I found Michael Krumm's book on the subject to be one of the best. It is thoroughly modern, relates performance to both technique and data acquisition, and is very well written. Highly recommended, and it should be on the shelf of any serious racer or track driver. His success on the track in various cars, including winning the FIA GT1 championship in a racing GT-R, gives him true credentials.

Not for Beginners

This text contains many hints and techniques not found in other books on race driving techniques. I've read many other books on racing techniques and I am a graduate of a very well known racing school and I still found this to be a worthy read. I found the discussion of the different techniques required by rear, front, and all-wheel drive cars to be very enlightening. The author's discussion of racing in the rain was good, too.

The time bomb that is South Africa's unemployed youth.

I read Herman Mashaba's latest book "Capitalist Crusader" with deep dismay at the way South Africa has been sidetracked down a desperate road that has all but destroyed the economy. His research is impeccable, his conclusions persuasive and anyone with a care about the future for their families will find it, at the same time, offering a positive way forward. It's not a crusader's rant. It is a brave presentation of the facts and consequences of an utterly unsustainable socialist agenda that has led to South Africa now suffering one of the highest unemployment rates (+25%) in the world.. mainly among the young. Essential reading.

About the Author

Kok-Keong “KK” Lee, CCIE® No. 8427, a consulting systems engineer for

Cisco Systems® South Asia, works closely with service providers and defense and large enterprise customers in Asia Pacific on network architecture. He has been a networking engineer since 1990 and specializes in IP core and MPLS technologies.

 

Fung Lim, CCIE No. 11970, is a systems engineer for Cisco and has been working with service providers in areas pertaining to network design, operations, and security. He has also been involved in the design of several provider networks in the Asia region.

 

Beng-Hui Ong is a product manager for the Cisco Broadband Edge and Midrange Routing Business Unit. He works with service providers and cable operators in the Asia Pacific region on network design and operations.

Thorough Overview of new High Availability features in Cisco IOS and more

"Building Resilient IP Networks by KK Lee et al" is Cisco Press's latest attempt to document all new High Availability features available on Cisco IOS software. Cisco is allocating lot of resources on new IOS features to improve Networks uptime and availability. New Microkernel OS architecture and ISSUP are now reality with Cisco Hardware and one can clearly see Cisco's commitment to improve network availability and uptime. One can always read and hear about these features by visiting cisco.com, talking to Cisco's TMEs, attending Networkers or Webcasts et al. Well after this title not anymore! This book will certainly get you started and for more details, one can always consult CCO. It covers all new HA, Network Management, Routing Protocols, Data Center security features including but not limited to EEM (Embedded Event Manager), IP SLA, COOL, BFD (Bidirectional Fowarding Detection), NSF(Non Stop Fowarding, SSO (Stateful Switchover) etc.

Most impressive aspect of this book is that, it teaches the reader the importance of modular network design and clearly shows how to build and design different modules of IP network. It also shows how different modules interact and what resiliency features are available for each module. The book is divided into 10 chapters discussing different modules in detail. There are separate chapters on Access Module, Core Module, Data Center Module, Internet Module, Wan Module and adequate coverage is given to Network Management and Monitoring. In Core Module, all IGP enhancements are discussed. In Internet Module all BGP and NAT enhancements including BGP Next hop tracking, BGP's NSF/SSO and Stateful NAT are discussed. If you want to know how OSPF graceful restart works or how RPR is different from RPR+, you should definitely consider this book.

I'll like to mention here that this book is not intended for beginners. It assumes you have considerable amount of experience with Routing protocols and Cisco hardware. Also in certain sections, details are less than adequate and reader has to search for more details on CCO. I am fine searching for more information but I don't understand why they cannot add 100 more pages and cover topics in more detail. Also considering the number of newer technologies discussed and introduced in this book, it would have been nice if it has Glossary of terms in the appendix.

Overall it is a thorough overview of newer HA features available and I highly recommend it to network managers and senior network engineers. I suggest Cisco press should come up with newer edition of this title every 12 to 18 months to keep Network Managers and Engineers abreast with new Cisco developments.

Not much about everything

Just looking at the impressive table-of-content and its breadth makes you wonder about the size of this book. Unfortunately, the authors decided to briefly cover a large number of topics without going in-depth on any one of them. So, if you're looking for a technology/solutions overview, this is the right book for you. If you're interested in one of the hot new Cisco technologies and want to get the details from this book, you'll probably be disappointed.

i grew up with these views before i re-read this when i re-read this sfter so many years, i was opened up and my insight got better to what i really am. this book explains why black people atre the way they are now, the slave days how whites raped our women, why black men are castrated, and still getting (ripped off) out of their manhood, we should stop protesting, and figure out our own solutions, to our problems someone should update this novel, for this explains our plight, and future- all you have to do is open our eyes, and really see things in life from all sides of the table. we built this earth, and society, we are the creators of music, art, comedy, matematics, and everything known to mankind. yes white folks are taking our styles yes we are doomed, integration is killing us, how many real black people are left, check your tv blacks are making fools of themselves on talk showsevery day, we are taking up their ways too much more niggers are going around saying the best man for their daughters is a white man, and vice versa, we have aids here and africa, how come more blacks got aids adn only 3% whites have it make you think don't it. then there is a rising disease coming hpv which will pick up where aids left off, black people we should wake up and solve our own issues.
