The first edition of Volume I of the Textbook of Wood Technology, co-authored by H. P. BROWN, A. J. P AN SHIN , and C. C. FORSAITH, was published in 1948. An indication of the rapid development of this field can be gained from the fact that the second edition of "Technologie des Holzes und der Holzwerkstoffe", completely revised, was needed by 1951. It contains 2233 pages compared with the 764 pages of the 1936 edition.

Provides a great overview of a variety of biochemical techniques. Details the instrumentation as well as many possible applications for each technique. Describes the theory in an easy-to-understand manner with a valuable amount of detail, however, if you are looking for an in depth explanation of theory for any one particular technique, this is not the book for you. If you want a simple, detailed overview of many important biochemical techniques, I found this book extremely helpful.

Unicorns are said to be good luck...these are for me!

I knew that I was ordering a small sized book that was exactly what I wanted to color and give away to people I live with in the nursing home to enjoy in their offices or give to the joy of 5 year olds. I've done them with pencils and gel pens...I've even mixed the two mediums on some pages. It's great fun to see the enjoyment of something I've created.

Here's what I've discovered:

One rule on every page of every stained glass coloring book: Always put a blank piece of pager behind the one you are working on or my eyes crossed...remember, the areas you are working on are SEE THROUGH! Be nice to yourself and your eyes. Working this way also helps you see where you missed spots that you want to go over...all yellows especially!

Colored pencils (I use Arlana's Vivid Colors because they are the smoothest without any scratchy bits inbeded) work well if I were going to use them as package decorations or looking at them close up. On a window, they just don't pop the way I want. I realize many stained glass works are pale. Though I must say, parents of the 5 year olds who received them, just love them! I must admit, I really more enjoy bright intense colors! That's me. You might favor the softer more...it's all a matter of personal preference.

Gel pens (I use Gel Pens 60 Pack with Case...the ones incased in a case almost as long as I'm tall...under 5") because I like the glittery ones' effects on things like stars, all the different parts of the unicorn, water, sand...you know things that glisten naturally. The gel pens sometimes flow well which means I don't have to keep going over and over them to show up as much as I want. If you look at the cover of the book, you can see what I mean...I'd do the stars, moon, and unicorn with glitter pens; the 2 grass areas with one of the non-glittery greens. The grey bit could be more grass or a rock or a cloud; it's open for your interpretation. I did some area with colored pencils when I couldn't find the right gel pen to give me my right color. I do like the gel pens for some of the tiny fiddly bits.

OOPS! 'sorry, I forgot a WARNING! There is no way I could fill in the unicorn manes and tails and stay between the lines! DON'T PANIC if you have a similar problem! It will only show up close! On the window, the light only shows through the positive bits (the area you color)! You won't see it on the window! PROMISE!!

In the set I got, there were 2 glitter pens that looked like they would fit my mental outcome for the mane and tail. One was silver, the other almost looked like it might be a glittery black. On the velum, it comes out more a glittery grey that sits on the paper better (ethically for me) and looked great to me on all parts of the unicorn although I still like the yellow/gold one for the horn. The circles method gave the coats an interesting effect. The silver horrified me as it is so glaring up closeI Later used the grey glitter on the bodies in small overlapping circles that I liked up close and far away. The silver looked good only in the window. I never tried the silver on the body but may try it on one of the unicorns in new copy I've ordered. Flat white with pencil and gel pen just didn't do it for me. Again, play and see what you like. There are NO RULES IN COLORING...if there are, YOU ARE THE RULER!

Oh, lines vs circles...I've used both and enjoyed the effects as typically the glass used in real windows is often imperfect. In tiny areas I liked the overlapping little circles best as they seemed to cover the areas faster and better. Again, try it and see what you like.

I am reordering this book again because I'm ordering some water color pen/brushes to see if they work any better than the media I've tried so far. I ordered a colorless blender as I've heard them (different reviewers on Amazon) say blenders will work on colored pencils, pens, and water colors. I want to revisit the pictures to see if I can improve them. If I like them, I'll recall the earlier ones and replace them with the new. (Altho I don't think the little ones will give them up! They sound like they will just want more!) I like these little books because I can get quick gratification! as well as practice and "trial and error" with different colors and media. I think they've got ones that are letter paper size (and expensive). I want one but want to be most comfortable with all my media first. They will be more expensive.

If you've not figured it out by now, I do recommend these little books for us "older kids" to play with.

Love these and bought 2, one for me and one for my mom because we are both addicted to coloring. These arrived and while I was a little shocked at the pocket size because I didn't pay attention at check out, I am happy with them and love coloring them. These pages are different than the average white paper coloring books and I find that using my felt tip markers work great on the pages while my mom loves using deep colored pencils on hers.

Versatile, great for vacations where you can't pack a lot and you could even toss these into a purse.

Before Moody and Ritchie was Starr Daily

Release is a confessional biography of Starr Daily. If the name Starr Daily rings as "stage" that is because the author changed his life so drastically that he renamed himself. Daily is one of the few people who have reported a panoramic life review (of the type noted in NDE literature) while actually alive - and before there was any literature about a panoramic life review. A person of extremes, Daily had day-dreams or visitations of Jesus as a child, and yet grew up admiring gangsters and vicious career criminals as a young man. He set out to become someone who could control others by violence, fear and intimidation. The tool he used was hatred, which he cultivated in his mind and heart non-stop. As a career criminal he seemed to understand Life as a competition with his fellow humans to master endurance over negativity and ultimately come out on top of everyone else by sheer callousness. During a stay in prison, Daily ingested soap as a way to appear ill and thus escape solitary confinement by being removed to hospital. During this self-poisoning, Daily seemingly entered a trance and saw images of everyone he had ever met and insulted, hurt or injured. He was made to feel how he made them all feel. "I dreamed while I seemed wide awake. It was like a scroll or motion picture film, which began to unroll slowly before my vision. And the only pictures on it were the pictures of people I had injured. It seemed there would be no end to it. A vast number of these people I new or had seen. Then there were hundreds I had never seen. These were people who had been indirectly injured by me. The minute history of my long criminal career was thus relived by me, plus all the small injuries I had inflicted unconsciously by my thoughtless words and looks and omissions. Apparently nothing was omitted in this nightmare of injuries, but the most terrifying thing about it was that every pain of suffering I had caused others was now felt by me as the scroll unwound itself." Daily was so tough and hard-bitten that initially he ignored the experience, only to find that it would repeat itself about a dozen times over the following weeks, culminating with a vision once again of finding himself in the presence of Jesus Christ and receiving the intensely soul-changing experience of divine light & love. Daily finds great satisfaction in this, and dedicates his life to public speaking and life-coaching others on the healing powers of of the light of God and Christ. The book in itself is a bit of a challenging read - mostly because Daily's favorite subject is himself, or at least the experiences he knows and understands that relate to himself. But this is also the book's strength. Starr Daily has an intense and intelligent mind but it is a mind uncluttered by education or facts. In other words anything he reveals to be true or wise comes from personal experience and not from book reading. In that sense this book is unique. A more common experience in this type of biography would be for the protagonist or author to proceed to plow through the religions of the world in order to add context and perspective. Starr Daily is an original, however, and his story and his learned wisdom are completely and entirely his own. An incredibly unique and instructive life.

A life-changing book

Truly a life-changing read.... This is God in the nitty-gritty, one of the few books I have read that actually shows you how to really love,
how to apply the simple power of love even in the most challenging or hopeless situations. A book of rare depth and honesty,
an arresting story written by someone who had the courage to walk the talk without compromise.
It will help you to get rid of all judgments and show you what it truly means to be Christian, as few people dare to do.
The book is an autobiography, full of inspiring true stories. Starr daily is a born story-teller,
and he writes in a unique, articulate and colourful style. At the same time, "he just tells it as it is".
How humbling it was for me to learn how to truly live my faith from an unassuming ex-convict.
This is what the book did for me, which is no small feat. The book has been translated into French under
the title "Liberation", and also into Japanese.

TRUE story, told VERY well about his encounter with GOD and how that changed him. Inside and out as well as those he was guided to help. REALLY worth your attention if you are the least open to such possibilities.
Even his name was changed to reflect what happened to him. VERY touched by it.

Excellent Resource

The book is clearly laid out, and the table of contents is super helpful for jumping right to an issue for immediate help on what to do right now. This is important because as parents of little kids know - if I cant get it done in a short period of time, its most likely not getting done.
No ridiculous or unrealistic things to perform or enforce to get the job done.
I highly recommend this.

Great parenting tool

This book was hugely helpful in getting a handle on some of my sons discipline issues.

While the concepts are not complex or hard to understand, the author breaks them down into easy to sections. The ideas of needing to belong, needing to feel accomplished and needing encouragement are basic human nature that I think is easy for parents to forget.

Like any parenting book, there were portions that did not work for us and this is certainly not a step by step one size fits all manual because those don't exist! It did though help with many of the behavior issues I was seeing and has made for a more peaceful home.

Common Core Crap!

As a teacher, I take great offense at having to use this anthology in my classroom. Luckily, our district chose to discard it after we piloted it. I'd rather use a holistic, authentic approach to teaching reading. Everything is scripted-even the guided reading books that accompany it. Don't settle for this unless you don't know anything about teaching.

The best book on driving a race car you can buy, and I have all of them

Well, maybe not all of them, but I have most of the biggest ones: the Skip Barber School's "Going Faster", Ross Bentley's "Speed Secrets", and Carroll Smith's "Drive to Win". The crown jewel in my collection is Ayrton Senna's "Principles of Race Driving", which is a pricey but intriguing look into the mind of the great driver.

This book, however, tops them all. Krumm covers every aspect of performance driving, from weight transfer to setup, and does it in a way that's clear and easy to understand. Even better, he backs up his instruction with specific examples, citing moments in Formula 1 races that illustrate his teaching points. This allows the reader to see in video what he's talking about in the book.

He also covers techniques I hadn't heard of before. One example is how to induce understeer to help deal with a car with severe oversteer. After explaining the technique, he cites a race where Fernando Alonso used that very technique to keep his car under control in a particular corner.

This book has gone to the top of my racecar instruction library, and it's hard to think anything else will top it. I wish it was available on Kindle so I could have it as a pocket reference; that's how good it is. If you're trying to learn how to drive a race car better, this book is a must-buy.

The best new book on race car driving and setup

I have read many books on driving techniques, and put much of the info from those to good use on the track. And out comes a new, up to date book on driving. I found Michael Krumm's book on the subject to be one of the best. It is thoroughly modern, relates performance to both technique and data acquisition, and is very well written. Highly recommended, and it should be on the shelf of any serious racer or track driver. His success on the track in various cars, including winning the FIA GT1 championship in a racing GT-R, gives him true credentials.

This text contains many hints and techniques not found in other books on race driving techniques. I've read many other books on racing techniques and I am a graduate of a very well known racing school and I still found this to be a worthy read.
